Alastair McKenzie - Biog
In the early 'noughties' I ran the Travel News Organisation providing travel news copy to start-up travel brands like Travelstore.com and Travellingwithchildren.co.uk.
In the late nineties I was co-director of Paprika, a company making streamed audio features and SMIL-based AV clips for websites.
Prior to that I was Travel Editor at the world's largest commercial radio station, Classic FM. For six years I was responsible for producing and presenting the Classic Travel Guide on Classic FM, a weekly one-hour travel programme which reached a national audience of almost 1/4 million (per edition) in the UK and which visited between 80-100 worldwide destinations per annum. It was also broadcast on Classic FM in the Netherlands, South Africa, & Tokyo.
Before Classic FM I worked for a large Independent Local Radio station in the South-West called Devonair Radio (Exeter, Torbay & East Devon - it no longer exists) where I was responsible for producing and presenting a string of successful speech-based programmes, including two travel programmes a business programme and a national award-winning personal finance programme.
And before that I worked for Computers for Business, a company in the South-West programming and selling the first generation of Phillips, NCR and Plessy business computers operating on CPM and MS-Dos!
In those days I also wrote as a freelancer for Yachting World, Yachts & Yachting, and local magazines like SWT & Devon Life, and was a contributor to BBC Radio 4's Waterlines programme..
Since the millennium, I have also worked as a freelance print journalist specialising in both travel and new media for a number of leisure & business publications including Film-makers Guide, International Living, Marketing Week, New Media Age, and, more recently, the Institute of Directors' magazine, The Director where I wrote a monthly business travel column.
About Alastair McKenzie
I'm a travel journalist with one foot in traditional media and the other in social media.
I've been a radio travel journalist since 1989 and an online travel journalist since the millennium... ok, just before the millennium.
In that time I have visited over 50 countries - many of them more than once, and a few up to a dozen times (eg USA).
I am an active member of the travel blogger & social media community.
I am the Editor [Strategic] of digital travel news media site, Travelllll.com
I am Vice-Chairman of the British Guild of Travel Writers, and the guild's webmaster, responsible for the guild's website and its travel industry contacts database.
I freelance as a commercial audio journalist recording interview and events clips for the travel industry, as a print/online travel journalist, as a webmaster, and I sometimes do talks or training on social media.
Oh yes, and I run the entirely fabulous (and "fiercely independent") Travel-Lists!
