| DFDS Seaways | 08705 333 000 | The North Sea ferry operator announced in April 05 that dogs, cats and other pets are welcome on the Newcastle to Amsterdam route. Their ships each have five pre-bookable car deck kennels, which can hold dog breeds as large as Great Danes, Newfoundlands and Bull Mastiffs. Or, if their owners prefer, dogs can remain in their cars for the duration of the crossing, as do other pets such as cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, mice, rats, gerbils and chinchillas. Owners are allowed restricted access to their pets during the cruise, but DFDS Seaways staff will perform regular checks to ensure the animals are comfortable. Owners need to provide a valid Defra-approved veterinary certificate showing that the pet has been micro chipped, vaccinated and blood tested for antibodies to rabies. They also need documentary proof that it has been tested for ticks and tapeworm. | |||

| Notes: | * | The Pet Travel Scheme, operated by DEFRA, means that UK residents can now take their pets on holiday to other European Union countries, and return to the UK without the need for quarantine. Holidaymakers with pets can now visit a vast number of destinations across Europe, as long as they use a route (ferry crossing/rail terminal/airport) and transport company approved by DEFRA. |
| * | If you don't plan to take your pets with you on holiday, but rather need somebody to look after them while you are away, you could try a specialist house/pet-sitter such as Home and Pet Care, Animal Aunts, or Absentia. |
