These are passenger train operators in the UK.

Arriva Trains Wales Rail network throughout Wales with connections into Manchester, Birmingham and Gloucester.
C2C Local railway company operating services to 26 stations in East London and Essex.
Central Trains Network covering the Midlands from Liverpool, Manchester and Sheffield in the North, down to Cardiff in the South-West and Stansted in the South-East.
Chiltern Railways Passenger rail services along the M40 corridor between London Marylebone, Birmingham Snow Hill and on to Kidderminster with an extension out to Stratford-upon-Avon. Also London Marylebone to Aylesbury via Amersham along the London Underground Metropolitan line.
First Capital Connect Since 1st April 2006, a new company has been operating the Thameslink and Great Northern rail franchises. First Capital Connect operates trains between London, Brighton, Bedford, Peterborough, Cambridge and King's Lynn.
First Great Western High speed train services between London and the South-West, plus commuter, regional and branch line train services across the former Wessex Trains and First Great Western Link.
First Scotrail Mainline and local services throughout Scotland.
First TransPennine Express Network from Manchester into Cumbria, across the Pennines to Leeds, York and Newcastle, Hull, Scunthorpe, Doncaster, Grimsby, and other towns in the region. Also Manchester Airport and local Manchester services.
Gatwick Express Gatwick airport shuttle from London Victoria. For the time being Gatwick Express is a dedicated direct service departing every 15mins, but its days as a proper airport shuttle are numbered after the Strategic Rail Authority's ludicrous decision open it up to commuter traffic stopping at Clapham Junction.
GNER Great North Eastern Railways operate express services from London to the North-East & Scotland - Leeds, York, Newcastle, Glasgow. The new franchisee, National Express East Coast, will take over the route on 9 Dec 2007.
Grand Central Grand Central has been awarded a franchise to operate passenger services between Sunderland and London, stopping at Hartlepool, Eaglescliffe, Northallerton and Thirsk.
Heathrow Connect Airport service operating every 30 mins from Paddington to Heathrow, but unlike Heathrow Express, stopping at a number of local stations on the way.
Heathrow Express Dedicated airport shuttle service from Paddington Station to Heathrow every 15 mins.
Hull Trains Innovative and enthusiastic rail operator running trains between King's Cross in London and Hull.
Island Line Train operator on the Isle of Wight.
Merseyrail Local rail network in and around Liverpool & Birkenhead.
Midland Mainline Network from London St Pancras into the Midlands - Leicester, Derby, Nottingham, Chesterfield - and north to Sheffield, Leeds & York.
Northern Rail Extensive network throughout the north from Carlisle to Crewe, Sunderland to Lincoln.
NI Railways Regional rail network from Belfast.
One Local rail network into East Anglia from Liverpool St. Station in London, including Stansted airport, Cambridge, Ely, Norwich, Colchester, Chelmsford & Southend.
Silverlink London overground network with a line running north through Watford to Northampton, St Albans and bedford.
Stansted Express Airport shuttle service to Stansted from Liverpool St. Station (via Tottenham Hale and either Bishops Stortford or Harlow), departing at 15 min intervals.
Southern Regional network from London to the south coast from the Thames round to Portsmouth.
SouthEaston Railway Local trains from london into the South-East (Kent).
South West Trains Regional network stretching from Waterloo through the south west to the coast from Brighton to Plymouth.
Virgin Trains Nationwide mainline network stretching from Aberdeen to Penzance.

Research Tips: *Docklands Light Railway, which operates overground services in East london as a bolt-on to the tube network, is also included in the official list of rail operators in the UK - as is London Underground and Eurostar.
*The remaining UK train operating companies on the official list are freight operators - EWS and Freightliner.
