LIST: STAND-ALONE TRAVEL GUIDEBOOKS (not part of a series)

These are some useful single travel guidebooks and directories, some of them one-offs, some of them published in editions.
1,000 Places To See Before You Die A New York Times Bestseller by guidebook writer, Patricia Schultz. It lists (pretty accurately, we think we) the top 1,000 things to experience and places to go in the world. You could try and work you way through the book ticking off experiences as you go but probably only if your name is Bill Gates and you know you've got a good few years left in which to get it all done!
Caffelletto Guidebook to luxury B&Bs - villas, castles, country manors and city apartments - in Italy. The latest edition (2005), unfortunately, is published in Italian only.
Bare Beaches Bare Beaches is a new guide (6 June 04) published by Lifestyle Press to the best and most beautiful beaches around the world on which to sunbathe nude. It is aimed at Brits who are tempted to go skinny-dipping, covering (!) more than 200 beaches in Spain and the Spanish islands, France and Corsica, the Greek islands, Portugal, the Caribbean, Croatia, Bahamas, Mexico, the US, Australia and New Zealand.
Parkings de Paris Invaluable for anyone travelling to Paris by car, the newly published guide lists 110 000 spaces in more than 215 public car parks classified according to districts, with a full description and including a telephone number for advance booking. Each car park has been assessed for facilities, security, prices, accessibility and tourist environment.
SAS Crew Guides A neat idea, no doubt dreamed up by somebody in the marketing dept. SAS airlines have published a city guidebook based on recommendations by its crew on the best places to eat, sleep, party and shop in cities throughout Scandinavia and the rest of the world. The 2006 edition is scheduled to be published in November 2005.
Where to Ski & Snowboard The 2005 edition of Where to Ski & Snowboard will be the ninth that journalists Chris Gill (editor of the Good Skiing Guide) and Dave Watts (editor-in-chief of Daily Mail Ski & Snowboard magazine) have compiled. It is the definitive guidebook for British skiers covering over 1,000 ski resorts worldwide, almost half of them in great detail. Highly-rated bu all who review it, it is published by NortonWood., up-to-date guides covering many of the world's most popular cites and destinations.
