Robert de Niro & partners plan a boutique hotel for London

Written by Alastair McKenzie on 13 May 2016.

Actor, Robert De Niro, together with hoteliers Ira Drukier and Richard Born, have submitted a planning application to Westminster City Council for a new 83-room luxury boutique hotel, The Wellington Hotel, in London's Covent Garden.

The trio* have worked together before. They were behind the successful Greenwich Hotel in New York. This will be their first hotel outside the US.

The Covent Garden development on behalf of Capital & Counties Properties PLC ("Capco"), would include luxury spa facilities, two restaurants, a deli/café and a members' club, all of which will be built around a central courtyard conservatory.

Bounded by Wellington Street, Tavistock Street, Burleigh Street and Exeter Street, The Wellington Hotel would span six adjacent buildings, three of which are Grade II Listed. Historic façades would be retained and incorporated into the new hotel to create a new space, as successfully implemented at The Greenwich Hotel in New York.

Westminster approve the plans, work would begin on the development in 2017, with construction being completed in 2019.

* Born & Drukier's BD Hotels company owns and operates around twenty-five hotels.[1] [2]
